Austrohelice crassa, commonly known as tunnelling mud crab, is a marine crab of the family Grapsidae. This crab live in burrows in the sand and mud and is endemic to the sea coasts of New Zealand. The carapace width is up to 4,0 cm.The mud crab eats worms, ascidians,feeds on carrion and diatoms, algae and bacteria.
They can live as long as 10 years.
Similar to Hemiplax hirtipes.
