This was a new sight, too. These little limpets chew away on the kelp, making a distinctive depression.

Info

Discurria insessa (Hinds, 1842)

Discurria insessa, common name the seaweed limpet, is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lottiidae. This marine species occurs from South Alaska to Baja California, Mexico . The size of the shell varies between 10 mm and 38 mm.

These little limpets chew away on the kelp (Feather boa tang, Egregia menziesiiherum), making a distinctive depression. Except for a few days in larval stage, this limpet species lives its entire life on this one species of kelp.
