Thaumastocaris streptopus Kemp, 1922

A common commensal shrimp associate of a wide variety of sponges. Thaumastocaris streptopus ist commensal within tube sponges.

The body colour is translucent. Shrimp with dark eyes.

The traditional view of these shrimps as symbionts has recently been challenged for a number of species dwelling in sponges, where diet studies revealed them to be parasites as their stomachs only contained host tissue and spicules
