Info

This little fellow, reminiscent of "Dumbo the elephant", was discovered and photographed during a deep-sea exploration by the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research and the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer from Kingstown, Rhode Island, to Miami, Florida, with the help of an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) during the 12th dive in the southeastern USA.

The clearly visible bright spots on the animal's body are like small transparent windows, but the exact function of these windows is not yet clear.
Scientists suspect that they could serve to "collect" light.

It's amazing what is discovered and revealed time and again during deep-sea explorations.

Our special thanks go to NOAA for this wonderful photo!
