Mesopontonia kimwoni is a species of shrimp in the family Palaemonidae and has been found around Munseom Islet, Jejudo Island, Korea,
collected on gorgonians and sponges.
Color:
The entire body and appendages are nearly transparent, with red longitudinal bands running along the ventral surface of the body from the antennal peduncle to the fifth abdominal somite.
Scattered minute white and red chromatophores can be seen along the dorsal surface of the cornea of the eyes and on the proximal segment of the antennal peduncle and abdomen.
Mesopontonia kimwoni lives symbiotically on the gorgonian Ellisella limbaughi.
Etymology:
The specific name "kimwoni" is in honor of Dr. Kim, Won, professor at the School of Biological Sciences, Seoul National University.
Prof. Won made a significant contribution to the systematics of Korean crustaceans.
