Info

Naria ostergaardi is endemic only around the Hawaiiian Islands 'and is considered the rarest cowrie even there, as it is also rarely found alive under coral rubble in deep water-.
The white base distinguishes Naria ostergaardi from the Honey and Porous cowrie (Erosaria helvola ).

Interestingly, the fact that dead, badly worn or broken shells are also rare, except on Midway Atoll, 2,400 kilometers away, possibly currents play a major role here.
Midway Atoll is part of the Hawaiii Emperor Island chain, which stretches from Hawaiii to the Aleutian Islands.
.
Naria ostergaardi is omnivorous and feeds on algae, but also predates on other sessile organisms.
