Info
The holotype of the soft coral Unomia complanatis comes from Japan and is an encrusting, flattened colony measuring 12 - 14 mm in height and 20 X 25 mm in diameter,
The stalk of the coral is not pronounced as the polyps actually grow out of the membranous base, leaving almost no bare space to the base of the colony
The polyp body is up to 4 - 5 mm long, and the tentacles are up to 2 mm long. The leaflets are fully contracted and appear to be arranged in 1 - 2 rows on each side
The collected paratypes are smaller than the holotype both have a distinct stalk bearing a polyp, the latter having a polyp protruding from the base.
These features are similarly confirmed by the underwater photographs.
