Info

Stramonita brasiliensis Claremont & D. Reid, 2011

Stramonita brasiliensis is a shell snail from the family Muricidae, which are called spiny snails due to the more or less pronounced spines on the shell. Spiny snails have a horny operculum to close the shell opening. The family includes small to large snails with a worldwide distribution, especially in the tropics. The predatory snails prey on other invertebrates.

The maximum size for Stramonita brasiliensis was revised upward in 2021 to a recorded size of 12.93 cm. The width of the case in this large example was 7.42 cm.
