Cladolabes perspicillum is an endemic that lives only in Australian waters and is found in seagrass beds and sandy bottoms.

In studies from 2003 to 2006, a total of 93,707 specimens were counted in the Great Barrier Reef, and one of the supporters of the marine encyclopaedia, Reef Life Survey, recorded 10,092 animals over a period of 9 years.
