Info

Pomatoschistus norvegicus is a small goby whose distribution area stretches from the Lofoten Islands off the coast of northern Norway to the Mediterranean Sea

The body of Pomatoschistus norvegicus is elongated and partially transparent with brown to rust-red spots.
The male has a black spot behind the first dorsal fin, and its ventral and caudal fins are darkly pigmented during the spawning season.
It may also have several narrow, dark transverse stripes on the side of its body, and an elongated dark spot may run horizontally at the base of the tail.

Pomatoschistus norvegicus is partially transparent with brown to rust-red spots. Animals in the juvenile phase may have a slightly bluish coloration of the body

Pomatoschistus norvegicus can be confused with the sand goby.
In comparison to the sand goby, Pomatoschistus norvegicus has a somewhat flatter head shape and the eyes are slightly higher up on the head.
Pomatoschistus norvegicus is usually found at greater depths than Pomatoschistus minutus.

It is known that Pomatoschistus norvegicus hybridizes with Pomatoschistus lozanoi.

Synonym: Gobius minutus norvegicus Collett, 1902
