Unfortunately, despite intensive research, we were unable to find exact information on the water depth, and thus the water temperature.
Only rough information such as “in shallow water (0-50 m)” from Coral Data Base or “dive equipment collected by hand” can be found.

The situation is similar with regard to exact habitat information. The article “Soft Corals and Sea Fans: A comprehensive guide to the tropical shallow water genera of the central-west Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea” by Katharina Fabricius and Phil Alderslade only provides summarized information about the genus as such:
This genus-related information ranges from a “preference for wave exposure, that this soft coral forms low, bushy to tree-like growing colonies.

Scleronephthya flexilis is certainly a coral that should be more intensively researched in the future
