Info

In 2017 Dr. Gerry Allen was able to collect and describe a previously unknown goby around Alotau, Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea and in the waters around New Britain Province, which mainly inhabits sandy-muddy bottoms.

In 2022, Acentrogobius quinquemaculatus was also discovered around Kakeroma-jima Island, Amami Islands, Ryukyu Islands, Japan.

Etymology:
The species name “quinque” means “five” and “maculatus” stands for “spotted”, and refers to the five large brown spots in the middle of the sides of the goby.
