Info
Liopropoma pallidum inhabits shallow lagoons and seaward reefs.
About the color of the animals:
Liopropoma pallidum was first described in “The fishes of the George Vanderbilt South Pacific Expedition, 1937. Monogr. Acad. nat. Sci. Philad, 2: pp. i-viii+1-349, 11 pl” as Chorististium pallidum Fowler, 1938 and collected around Christmas Island in 1937.
On page 199 of the first description, the following can be read about the color of the animals: “Colour light red, more brilliant on abdomen”, which explains the one photo by Dr. Jack Randall.
Unfortunately, despite extensive research, we are unable to provide a reference to the yellowish color morph in the second photo.
We have written to Dr. Nicolas Baily, FishBase's ichthyologist, for assistance and will update the entry when we receive his reply.
The IUCN Red List has classified Liopropoma pallidum as a “non-threatened species” as of 03.11.2015, but we have not yet been able to find any photos of living animals.
Synonym: Chorististium pallidum Fowler, 1938 - unaccepted (synonym)
