Info

Pseudomadrepora carolina is an azooxanthellate, reef-building stony coral that was first described in 1971 as Lophohelia carolina, later assigned to the genus Madrepora, and in 2025 to the new genus Pseudomadrepora.

Pseudomadrepora carolina occurs throughout the tropical western Atlantic in the Gulf of Mexico and off the southeast coast of the United States, often together with Madrepora oculata.

The stony coral forms bush-like colonies with a thick base up to 28 mm in diameter on rocky substrates.

Only limited information is available on the growth, age, and reproduction of the species.

Color: The coral comes in two color morphs, pink and white.

Etymology:
The species name “carolina” refers to the type locality of the coral on the east coast of the United States.
