Info

The zooids of the sea squirt are transparent to yellow-greenish and are attached to basal stolons with their entire ventral side or posterior without stem development.
The digestive tract is a transverse loop at the rear end of the body; the rectum does not extend very far forward due to the position of the atrium opening in the middle of the back.
The stomach is oval, without spiral folds.
This sea squirt occurs in very shallow water zones and can also be observed by reef walkers; colonies often occur under limestone.
Electron microscopic examinations of the morula cells of Ecteinascidia nexa showed that the intracellular granules were rich in vanadium.

Ecteinascidia nexa resembles Ecteinascidia multiclathrata Sluiter 1913 and Ecteinascidia jacarens Tokioka 1954

Synonym: Ecteinascidia tokaraensis Tokioka, 1954
