Info

Caphyra rotundifrons (A. Milne-Edwards, 1869)

Type locality: New Caledonia

The Turtle weed crab inhabits clumps of the dark green seaweed called Turtle weed (Chlorodesmis fastigiata). The small green crabs are described as very dociles that will not nip or run off when disturbed.

Usually it is said one pair lives in one algae clump. At the ends of their fith walking legs they have hooks with which they attach to the weed and prevent them from being washed away.
