Info

Aulostomus strigosus Wheeler, 1955

The trumpetfish family (Aulostomidae) belongs to the suborder of the pipefishes.
It includes 3 known species which are not really important for the aquarium hobby.

We have not yet seen them in the trade....
Their strikingly slender and elongated body makes them almost unmistakable and
unmistakable and easy to identify. Trumpetfish come in different colorations.
They adapt very well to their surroundings.
The exception is Aulostomus chinensis, which occurs in bright yellow.

Trumpetfish live in tropical seas in coral reefs, juveniles certainly also in seagrass meadows.

Trumpetfish are predatory fish and prefer to feed during the day.

In reefs they can often be seen standing horizontally and in various other inclined positions in the water in order to hide in seagrass, between gorgonians or soft corals, for example.
