Distribution: Western Atlantic: North Carolina to Florida in USA and the entire Gulf of Mexico.

Occurs in bays, lagoons and shallow coastal waters.

Eyed side brownish with 4 ocelli with whitish centers: 1 on caudal peduncle, 2 in vertical line between dorsal and anal fins, and another above arch in lateral line.
