Info

Phoca vitulina Linnaeus, 1758

Phoca vitulina and its three subspecies

-Phoca vitulina mellonae Doutt, 1942
-Phoca vitulina richardii Gray, 1864
-Phoca vitulina vitulina Linnaeus, 1758

are found from the extremely cold Arctic waters all the way to the tropical waters of Mexico.

In addition to fish such as herring and cod, squid and various crustaceans are part of the diet of these well-known mammals, which, however, are increasingly suffering from the pollution of their habitats and are accumulating environmental toxins in their bodies that originate from their prey.
