Very special thanks for the first two photos of Madracis asperula to Rafael Mesa, Blue World fotos!

Madracis asperula, an azooxanthellate coral, is found in intermediate to deep-water fore reef environments, from 12-200 meters.

The coral seems to be non-sensitive respective fifferent temperatures, it is found in the cold Scotia Sea and just as in the warmer Caribbean Sea.

Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Cnidaria (Phylum) > Anthozoa (Class) > Hexacorallia (Subclass) > Scleractinia (Order) > Astrocoeniidae (Family) > Madracis (Genus) > Madracis asperula (Species)
