This species forms small schools which are sometimes mixed with T. tevegae. The fishes hover in caves, recesses or under the overhangs of coral reefs. When hovering, the ventral side faces the nearest substrate surface (e.g. the wall or roof of a cave) the same as with T. tevegae. However, T. flavatrum tends to be found more towards the back of the caves and recesses

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
