Pseudochromis andamanensis was described by 14 collected specimens from the eastern Andaman Sea in the Bay of Bengal.
The animals were sighted around Perforated Island, the Similan Islands, the Surin Islands, Phuket, Kata Bay and in the Mergui Archipelago belonging to Myanmar in coral areas in a depth range between 5 and 35 meters.
Later investigations showed that Pseudochromis andamanensis can be found in coastal, lagoon and exposed seaward reefs, between sheltering corals, but this dwarf perch is considered "secretive", which refers to its reclusive, rather hiding behaviour.
The fact that there are no in-situ photos of this species confirms the described behaviour.
This dwarf perch has a bright yellow to orange ground strip or a series of spots.
The species is named after the type locality of the Andaman Sea as Pseudochromis "andamanensis ":
