Info

On Voador Seamount in the East Atlantic, a deep water crustose anemone associated with the gorgonian Candidella imbricata was found on 26 July 2010.

This colonial Zoanthus is found on the surface of the octocoral Candidella imbricata often in an orthogonal arrangement around that of the gorgonian axis).
No mineral encrustations were present on the crusts in the ectoderm of the polyp.

This species occurs in association with the primnoid octocoral Candidella imbricata, but only one specimen of Hurlizoanthus hirondelleae was found in association with Candidella imbricata. Therefore, we assume that the this association is rare.
There is strong evidence for parasitic behavior of the crustose anemones.

Etymology
The genus name refers to HURL (Hawaiiian Undersea Research Laboratory), which has provided major funding for deep-sea coral research in the Hawaiiian archipelago and has provided its submersible Pisces.

Etymology
The name of this species is dedicated to the research yacht Hirondelle, used by Prince Albert I of Monaco during his oceanographic campaigns in the Azores.
