Info
The sea anemone Bunodosoma cangicum Belém & Preslercravo, 1973 is endemic to the South Atlantic and is found from the north coast of Brazil to the coast of Uruguay.
It usually occurs in aggregations in the intertidal zone, in cracks, in rocky substrates partially covered with sediment, and is the most common sea anemone on the Amazon coast.
Sea anemones of the genus Bunodosoma have longitudinally arranged, brown-colored vesicles along their body column.
These wart-like structures in Bunodosoma cangicum have been found to contain a mixture of potent toxins.
These toxins have not yet become dangerous to humans, but may serve for defense and prey paralysis/ prey killing.
